I'm a pro musician and probably own about 5 keyboards. This is a very good "quick" keyboard. If I'm playing a gig where I dont need a lot of sound and don't want to lug mixers and an amp, this does a great job. Nice touch, decent piano sound.

I primarily use this as my go to "rehearsal" keyboard and it is light enough to travel around with me.

    Some drawbacks:
    - If you're playing with other instruments, you need to plug into an amp, but it only has headphone jacks, so this is not meant to be used in a band (and I don't, I'm just warning you)
    - The sound of the piano through headphones is really crisp, but the speakers on the bottom and sounds a little muted.

    Pros:
    - Lightweight
    - Really nice piano action (I prefer Kawai Acoustics and this did not disappoint)
    - Extremely good for background music gigs. Light enough sound to not overpower.

    Bottom line:
If you're a pro musician, this should not be your primarily instrument. This is a good practice and rehearsal keyboard. But it is a good investment if you dont want to drag out your Fantom or Triton

Have owned several grand pianos from different brands and recently ventured in the Digital Piano world. After extensive review and playing experience purchased the ES100. At this price point this digital piano is a winner. I can't honestly state it's the best in class because my experience is limited compared to the number of units/brands I have not tried, but it is hard to believe something much better for the price. It has a good acoustic piano like action and the piano sound is just amazing at this price point. Only thing holding me back from five star is the lack of display screen and find the amplification and speaker could be improved, not in quality, but in volume. It is still adequate for a normal living room, but the Yamaha P105 sounds louder than this unit and would be more appropriate for a small gig. However, the ES100 beats the P105, IMHO, in quality of sound, piano sample, piano action and rythmn section. Connected to a good quality amplifier it's an undisputed winner.

I have been playing piano for over ten years now and I must say, I'm impressed with the quality of this keyboard. The keys are weighted which are perfect for professional players. It is very simple when it comes to functions which I like because I don't like having useless functions on my keyboard. It has a warm sound and looks good! If you are looking for simplicity with quality, this is the keyboard for you!

    UPDATE Sep 9, 2019:
I originally gave a raving review when I first bought it about 5 years ago and lately I've noticed some drawbacks. Most notably, the hammer action of the weighted keys have diminished over time and the keys are lighter to touch which means they don't accurately emulate the feel of a reach acoustic grand. In addition, every key has adopted a clicking noise when pressed which makes it impossible to record real-time playing with because it interferes with the actual sound coming from the keyboard. Another little thing I noticed was that the power button lost it's ability to spring back when pressed, so it's kind of half in. The keyboard still turns off and on normally but it's much less satisfying to press the power button. I recommend this keyboard to late beginner to intermediate pianists looking for an affordable, simple and clean interface keyboard that will last about 5 years, but then I suggest spending a little more money for an upgraded, longer lasting keyboard.

Very nice sound, but... there is no duet (four hand) mode in instrument many people will be using to learn with an instructor! Why? This is an option COMMONLY available on many other even less expensive pianos. It is also implemented on (more expensive) Kawai ES7 and new ES8 models (and many other Kawai models). It is NOT a question of price, this is not a costly option, many cheap pianos offer it! All needed to add it is just a bit of coding, no hardware changes. If you need a piano to learn, and sometimes would like to play with a teacher (four hands), look for another piano!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 24, 2016
I've grown up learning piano but never had anything except a keyboard and wanted a digital piano as authentic sounding as it could be for under £600. I bought this during my first year at university as it's a way to be able to practice at home and at uni, it's heavy but manageable, get a good bag for it and it's perfect to use in this way (we usually lay it across the backseat of the car to transport). I did tons of research to try and decide which digital piano to go for and in the end it just seemed worth it to go for the Kawai and it was. Not all 8 presets of piano sounds are great but even just one of them sounds much better to me than the yamahas I listened to in demos. It's a really nice sturdy instrument and has a really good piano sound, obviously it's not perfect but it won't be unless you want to pay thousands or just get a piano.
